Where it's warm! And no snow!

I did this birthday card for my sister in law using pink cardstock, embossed with butterflies using my new butterfly embossing folder! The edges are distressed a bit but this picture doesn't do that part of the card justice. I punched some small flowers and put pearls as their centers and added a few quilled scrolls. Then I quilled the butterfly and added some pearls and gems.

Well, it is time for Leo to travel to his next destination! I think he had a great visit. The first day he was here I was working on some personalized fleece blankets. He helped me get those ready to ship out. I think he was confused though. He kept trying to get in the box. He thought he was going already too!
We took a break and went to Fond du Lac to see the lighthouse. This was something I hadn't seen before. It was really pretty but it was also really cold!
In October, Piyu at Take a Quill Pill Blog had her 1st anniversary challenge! I like to enter Piyu's challenges. I am not near as talented as these ladies, but it gives me something to strive for!

For her First anniversary challenge I donated a t-shirt as a prize. To win, the theme was 'Congratulations'.

The chosen winner was Kiddo! This was her entry:

I finally finished the t-shirt and got it off to her a week ago. Who knows how long it will take to get to Romania from the US! Hopefully she will receive it soon!
I hope she likes it!

Leo and I hung out in the park and got to check out this neat lighthouse.
As you travel the streets of Fond du Lac, the image of the lighthouse is readily seen on bridges, road signs, and advertising. The community’s affinity for the lighthouse is perhaps because the beacon was built and lit during one of the city’s darkest periods.

In 1932, lumberman W. J. Nuss generously offered to build a lighthouse in Lakeside Park using plans donated by the noted architect Roger A. Sutherland. The offer was quickly accepted by the park board, and work on the forty-foot tower started the following May. At this time, the country was suffering through the depths of the Great Depression. Unemployment peaked at 24.9% in 1933, spreading a cloud of gloom across the nation. Charitably, the laborers employed on the lighthouse project were all out-of-work Fund du Lac citizens.

The bottom ten feet of the eight-sided lighthouse consists of a flagstone-covered base, while the upper section of the tower is of frame construction. A wooden staircase, attached to the interior walls of the lighthouse, winds up through the tower permitting visitors to reach the observation deck, where an excellent view of Lakeside Park is afforded.

The best part was standing next to the lighthouse listening to the water. The edges of the lake were iced up and the water lapping against the ice made the prettiest tinkling sounds.
Holiday Cards Everywhere! This year I've decided to make all my own Holiday cards, and I say Holiday cards because I need to do both Christmas and Hanukkah.

I have a Silhouette SD cutter and a Texture Boutique embosser. These make things so much easier for me. Here are some of the cards I've made so far. Oh... and Leo has been a big help! (Read all about Leo HERE.)

I'm finding my style is rather simple and clean. I am not crazy about all the coloring and images and fluff, although there is something to be said for a few pearls or a piece of ribbon here and there.

That being said, here are some of my favorites so far.

These were all fairly simple to make. I am using supplies I have on hand other than the Christmas and Hanukkah paper. And the day after Thanksgiving Silhouette had their cut files on sale for fifty cents each so I scored!

These are my favorite Hanukkah cards so far.

I hope everyone has happy holidays!
This is the project that has been keeping me busy for the last few weeks. I was neglecting everything else to try and get this one done...... Oh, not this, this is the view from our hotel room at the beach!
My step daughter was married last month on the beach! It was an amazing ceremony! I wanted to have this done for the reception which was two weeks later, but it is now two weeks after that. I finally got it off in the mail to them Friday.

If not for Sonya and all my buddies at the My Creative Classroom this would not have turned out so pretty. There were many iterations before I finally came up with this arrangement.

Ok... so I am soooo not a scrapbooker! I have a love hate relationship with scrapbooks. I love to look/receive/have them, but I hate to make/design/compile them!

In comes this cool digital scrapbooking software! This software has so many features, is very easy to use, lots of ways to share, and best of all, new and different layouts all the time! With this software, I will be making scrapbooks galore! Right off the bat, I did these two pages!

I downloaded some of the amazing free kits and background papers to do these, but there are lots of papers, embellishments and pages already included. There are also lots of kits available on the My Memories website at very reasonable prices. And.... you can add music and videos to your scrapbooks with one click!

There are lots of ways to share your book once it is finished. You can print it, export it to a jpeg, have a professional printed and bound scrapbook, calendar, dvd, movie, just any way you like it. You can turn your scrapbook into an interactive album on a disc that will automatically play on a computer!

Listed here!

I have come to love quilling! But I'm sure I'm not very good at it. Well imagine my surprize when I found this class at My Creative Classroom!

The first week we did basic open and closed coils. My daughter helped me make this out of the shapes we learned to make. It turned out cute.

The class homework assignment was this great card! I think mine turned out well! I do know that my coils look much better than my originals (read that 'before class') lol

The center scallop and oval is left blank because I am not sure what I will be using this card for. When I figure it out, I will stamp the sentiment on the white oval with blue ink and maybe add some crystals.

So... I had these cards listed on etsy. They get lots of views, but no sales. I thought they could use some sprucing up with some quilled flowers. What do you think? I like the new ones better!!
Cut out your pieces. With the fabric right sides together I cut two pieces of the cotton. For the insulation, I used 'InsulBright' fabric. It is machine washable and dryable and helps protect against heat. You can also use batting and ironing board material. You would use one piece of each in the center instead of the one piece of Insulbright.

Take your 2 pieces of cotton fabric, right sides together, add your piece of Insulbright (or batting and ironing board fabric) to the top. The next thing you need is an elastic hair tie. I used some I had on hand. Mine had the little metal piece in them, so I just cut this out. Fold the elastic in half and place it as in the picture before sewing your seams. Place it with the cut sides even with the edge of your fabric, in between your two pieces of cotton that are faced right sides together.

Sew your seams using approximately 1/2 inch seams leaving an opening approximately 2 inches to turn your sleeve right side out. I left my opening on the bottom. When sewing over the elastic, I back spaced, then went over it again so it would be extra secure.

Trim the seams and clip your corners. Next you need to turn them right side out making sure that the Insulbright is still in the center. My first try I had it on the outside! LOL
(By this time it was breakfast, thus the Eggo's! Bad, bad breakfast, but it tasted so yummy! and don't look at my mess behind the ironing board!)

Then sew about 1/8 inch around all the edges. Slip stitch the opening that you turned it through.

In measuring where to put the button, I wrapped the sleeve around the large cup and made a mark under the elastic with my sewing chalk.
Oops! So much for the new Blogger format! I hit the wrong button!! A few more pictures to come! LOL
Ok... let's finish this up!
Wrap your cozy around the cup you bought for your sample. I used tailor's chalk to mark where I wanted my button to go. Sew the button on and yay! You are done!

I am now going to put tags on mine and sell them on consignment at the coffee shop. Next time I think I will do sew in labels. These would also make great gifts for the coffee lover on your list!
I know I don't play every week, but some weeks are busier than others!

This weeks questions:

1. What are your favorite 3 things about fall?
2. Are you a football fan and if so who is your favorite team?
3. What is your favorite fall scent?
4. So you have seasonal allergies?
5. Have you started Christmas shopping yet?

And my answers:

1. Everything about fall is my favorite! After living in Arizona for 15 years where we didn't have fall, I am loving it in Wisconsin! The colors, the smells, the crisp air, just all of it!

2. We are not big football fans around here. We pretty much only watch when it hits playoff time.

3. Hmm.. my favorite fall scent would have to be apple cinnamon! Apples pies baking in the oven (not me, I can't bake pie for nothing!)

4. I DO have seasonal allergies and since moving to Wisconsin they are much much worse!

5. I started my holiday shopping oh, about June. I like to buy things online when they are on sale (woot.com, we love you) and save them the holidays.

Now click the button above and go over to Night Owl Crafting and play along!

Here is my new QR code! It will take you to a page on my website where you can get a code for free shipping. This just shows you a little of what you can do with your own QR code. You can also set it to your email address, You Tube account, a Vcard, a map or plain old text or your Facebook page.

According to WikiPedia:

A QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response code) is a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) that is designed to be read by smartphones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded may be text, a URL, or other data.

I've had my smartphone for a while. Never used it to scan these, but the other day I got one in the mail for a special offer that I wanted to take advantage of. It was so easy! Of course first I had to download an app to read them at the app store. So I got redlaser, it reads them and also can read bar codes and check price and availability at nearby stores! You can also use Blazerfish or QRafter at their respective websites.

Here's a great article on Marketing with QR codes

&amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;br&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;and&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt;

and here is another socialmediaexaminer.com

Here are places to generate QR codes:

http://goo.gl/
http://goqr.me/
http://app.qreateandtrack.com/#/create/url
http://www.qrstuff.com/
http://delivr.com/qr-code-generator ( I used this site as you can get free reports showing how many views and clicks your qr code as gotten)

You can also get them in color. I think these would be great for business cards, or mailers if you do them. You could set it to give users a special discount code like I did above, or lots of other marketing ideas.
She is my Go To blog when I need help with my quilling. I just took that up a few months ago and am having a great time with it.
Included were papers, stickers, a punch, Twirled Paper by Klutz, pencils, a calendar, cards, a glass ornament, just so many great things!!

I have done a few projects with this already, the first being glass etching. I have been itching to do some etching! ;-) This glass ornament was my first project. I also had a bottle that I got at the Thrift store and a pumpkin shaped jar that I wanted to etch on.

For the glass etching, I got all my supplies together, my glass pieces, some inexpensive paint brushes, Armour Etch (purchased at Hobby Lobby) and covered my work space with paper.

Using my Silhouette I cut some pieces out of vinyl. For the glass ornament I chose snowflakes. For the bottle, I decided to make a vase out of it for some paper flowers so found a scrolly flower design.

The next was the hard part for me since my glass jar was tapered where I wanted the etching to be. The glass ornament was a cinch. Decide where you want the design to be. Place the vinyl accordingly.
For the glass bottle, I should have made extra cuts in my vinyl and overlapped in spots. When placing the vinyl you don't want any buckles on corners and such. If you have these, the etching cream will get underneath them and etch spots you don't want etched. Be sure your vinyl is as flat as possible before adding the etching cream.

Next, slather the etching cream on being very careful not to get it on your hands or anything but the glass. The instructions say to leave the cream on for 10 minutes. I have found that that's not long enough. I left the cream on these 2 items for 30 minutes. When I did the pumpkin, I left it on for an hour! Set them somewhere that they won't drip. My soon to be vase dripped incessantly. I tried to keep the drips under control with my brush every few minutes.

Once your 30 minutes has lapsed, taking your brush, you can scrape off any excess cream and put it back in the jar for the next time. After you've done that, take items to the sink and rinse with water. I also used a paper towel to help get the cream off. Once I had all the cream off, I removed the vinyl. My ornament came out fabulously!

I will show pictures of the vase and pumpkin in another post. I've also done some quilled birthday cards with the quilling book that I will post later.

Thanks so much Antonella!!
Then you figure it out and they change it! Well, this time for the better!

has made it much easier to add the 'Pin It' button to your posts so your readers can pin you to their boards.

Now you can go to their 'goodies' section on their website, enter in your details and get the code all written out for you!
Click here, scroll down to "Pin It" Button for Websites and you will see this:

Fill in the info asked for, the URL of the webpage you want the pin on, the URL of the image, and the description you want. The description is not necessary but it gives your readers a place to start and can be changed/ replaced by them. You can also specify if you want your pin count next to or above your button, or not at all.

So, now that you have all this fancy code, you can copy and paste it into your blog post in the 'Edit HTML' mode and voila! You have your pin it button.
For specific instructions on which url's to use, see this post Adding Pin It To Your Posts.
